Attitude . . .

This is a card I made for a neighbor who is fighting a battle with cancer.  She has the most wonderful attitude and fighting spirit of anyone I've ever known!  So, I decided to make this card for her.

I used this week's challenge over at Card Patterns for the card.  I really like how the card turned out!  It is an A2 size card.  I layered the K&Co. patterned papers and put the computer generated sentiment on a Nestabilities Labels die.  I cut a silhouette circle from the Sesame Street font Cricut cartridge and cut it in half and put on the card facing inward.  I added a bow, some pearls, and it was done!

Earth Has No Sorrow . . .

This is a sympathy card I made for a friend at church whose sister died suddenly a few weeks ago.

The card base was cut at 5 1/2" from A Child's Year Cricut cartridge.  I liked the shape of it.  I then layered some Making Memories patterned paper from their wedding stack on the card itself.  I printed the sentiment on my computer and cut it using a Nestabilities scalloped oval die.  I also used a Martha Stewart border punch at the bottom.  The dove was a button in my stash.  I just snipped the back off it.  The pearl on the ribbon is a button as well.  I just threaded the ribbon through the button hole on the back.  Very simple card, but I liked how it turned out.  Hope you do too!  If you do, let me know!

A Little Pickup For You

We have a dear friend who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.  He has been on my heart so many days lately.  He is in the hospital for 28 days going through chemo.  Since beginning chemo, he's already battled a bacterial infection but is recovering now from that.  I wanted to make a card for him to let him know that we are thinking about him. 

It's so hard for me to make cards for guys.  I miss putting flowers on my cards!  This card is an A2 size.  I started with kraft cardstock.  I used a border punch to decorate the outside edges of the card.  The pickup was cut using the Just Because Cards Cricut cartridge.  I think it was cut at 4 1/2".  The sun is a combination of a flower punch layered twice, and then layered with a circle punch.  I also cut a circle using the George Cricut cartridge and cut it in half to put behind the truck (because it just needed something.)  I added a couple of gems as well.  I cut the words, "A little pickup for you" from the Just Because Cards cartridge and put it on the inside of the card.

Hot Dog!

A dear friend's 19 year old son fell a couple of weeks ago while playing basketball and injured his shoulder.  He now has to have surgery to repair it.  :o(  This is the card I made for him.  Hopefully it will put a smile on his face.

I loved the sketch this week over at Mojo Monday, so I decided to use it to give me a jump start on this card.  The card is an A2 size.  I've seen so many cards done lately with kraft paper, so I wanted to give it a shot.  I cut the hot dog at 2" from the Simply Charmed Cricut cartridge, and the circle behind it was cut using good old George (the Cricut cartridge that is) at 3".  "Hot Dog" is computer generated and punched.  I also added some ribbon from my stash and a couple of "skittles."  The sentiment on the inside of the card says, "You'll be all healed before you know it!  You're in our prayers."  I added a strip of paper on the top inside to slip a gift card into.

I can't believe it -- I won!

I'm so excited!  I won the challenge over at the Caardvarks blog!  Woo hoo!  Here is a link to the card I submitted. 

Forever In Our Hearts

You may recall that several weeks ago, I posted a sympathy card that I made for friends that go to our church because their daughter was tragically killed at the age of 17.  I told the Mom that I wanted to do something for her and suggested either making some thank you notes for her to send, or decorating a box in which she could store her sympathy cards.  She liked the idea of a storage box for her sympathy cards.  Then she told me that she had gotten 478 sympathy cards at that point.  Wow!  So, then I was on a mission to find something big enough to hold that many sympathy cards.  I ended up buying a wicker chest at Michael's with a hinged lid.  The first picture I am posting shows the chest, which measures about 20 inches tall and is about 18 inches x 18 inches wide.  I think it will hold her cards, plus maybe a few other mementos.  I decorated the inside of the lid so that she can put a picture of her daughter there.  I gave it to her today, and she seemed to really like it.  I am a little worried that the glue won't hold, since the lid will be down most of the time, but I used Fabri-Tac, which is about the strongest glue I have used, so keep your fingers crossed that it will hold.  I almost always add things with pop up dots because I love the dimension, but I decided not to use them on this layout because of being afraid they would come off.  Thus, everything is very flat.

I used My Mind's Eye papers.  I glued lace all around the outside edge.  The photo frame was cut using the A Child's Year Cricut cartridge.  The label background was cut using the Lacy Labels Cricut Lite cartridge.  Forever was cut using SCAL and using the Wrexham Script font.  "In our" was cut using the Cindy Loo Cricut cartridge.  "Hearts" is the Sizzlit Wingo Dingo font.  Of course the heart is a Nestabilities die.  The roses are made by Recollections, and the label with the Bible verse on it is a Spellbinders die.  I think the large white flower is a Heidi Swapp flower, and the black flower is Bazzill.  The blue border with the holes in it is a new EKSuccess border punch. 

I hope it gives her some kind of comfort, and I hope you like it.

Have a Blast

I'm a little sad posting this card.  It is my last card as a part of the design team at Cardabilities.  I will miss being part of this great team, but have told Karan that I hope to reapply for another term later. 

This birthday card was made for a co-worker to give to his future stepson.  I had lots of fun making it, and really liked the great, vibrant colors.  The card measures 4 1/2" x 6".  The scalloped circle border with the holes is a new EKSuccess border punch.  I covered up part of the holes with my paper.  The cog shape was cut using the Accent Essentials Cricut cartridge at 3".  The rocket was cut using the Just Because Cards Cricut cartridge.  As I recall, I ended up cutting it at 6 1/4" (this cartridge cuts the card itself, so all of the cuts that go onto the card will proportionately fit the card).  Thus this rocket is not 6 1/4", but it would fit on a 6 1/4" card.  Hope that makes sense. The orange scalloped border is an EKSuccess border punch as well.  The white star is a chipboard piece by Making Memories that I had in my stash.  I printed the sentiment and punched it with a circle punch and added a scalloped circle behind it.  That was then layered on a star cut using the George Cricut cartridge.  I added a couple of buttons from my stash as well.

The inside sentiment says, "On your birthday, and every day."

Wee . . . Wee, Wee, Wee!

This was such a fun card to make!  I'm sure you have seen the Geico commercial with the pig saying, "Wee . . . Wee, Wee, Wee!"  If not, here is a link to the commercial on You Tube:

My sister told me a few weeks ago that she had told her co-workers that the pig on this commercial is her, and how she feels when she leaves work at night.  She has been putting in quite a bit of overtime, and she absolutely loves "home."  In fact, I bought her a plaque for Christmas last year that said, "There's No Place Like Home -- ~Dorothy~  So, it has become a huge joke.  She said that as she and a co-worker were pulling out from work last week, she put her window down and yelled at the co-worker and said, "Wee . . . Wee, Wee, Wee!"  Too funny.

She lives in another state and came to my house last weekend for a visit.  We had so much fun together.  I enjoyed every minute of her visit.  And when she got ready to leave, both of us cried.  I left my hometown 22 years ago, and I still miss her!  I think she will get a big kick out of this card.

I used a DCWV scalloped square card front for this card, which measures 5 1/4" x 5 1/4".  I printed the sentiment on the front from my computer and layered it on a Nestabilities scalloped rectangle die cut.  I made the flower myself by using one of the flowers that is a "Button" creative feature on the Paisley Cricut cartridge.  (I learned how to make it here:  http://community.provocraft.com/Cricut-Community_postst14198_Garden-Mums.aspx)   I added lots of Stickles to the flower.   I cut the stem/leaves from the Cindy Loo Cricut cartridge.  (I cut the flower itself off and used just the stem.).  The pig and pinwheels on the inside were cut using the Create A Critter Cricut cartridge.  The square frame around the pig was cut using the Sesame Street font Cricut cartridge.  I added Stickles on both the pinwheels and the frame.  The flower is a Prima, layered with with a punched flower and a glittered gem (can't remember the manufacturer of the gem).  The leaves are a Martha Stewart punch.

Since I put the pig on the inside of the card, I printed the remainder of the sentiment on the top half of the inside of the card.  That sentiment says, "Wee . . . Wee, Wee, Wee!  You'll Never Know How Much I Enjoyed Having You." 
I hope you like it, and I hope my sister likes it.  I'm even going to send it to her office so hopefully she can show it to her co-workers.

Bee Happy

This card was made for a 9 year old girl with cancer.  Her family had contacted the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the girl's wish was to receive lots and lots of get well cards.  If you are interested in sending a card, her address is as follows:

I started this A2 sized card by using a DCWV scalloped rectangle card front.  The bee (heavily glittered with Stickles) and the sentiment "Bee Happy" were cut using the Just Because Cards Cricut cartridge at 4 1/4" (I think)  I then put the sentiment on a label from the Lacy Labels Cricut Lite cartridge.  I added a few pearls for the trail of the bee, a Recollections mini rose and a little piece of ribbon from my stash.

The inside of the card says, "and be healed is our prayer."

I made this card several weeks ago, but hadn't gotten a chance to post it yet.  I made it for the parents of my old high school friend who passed away last month.  I really like how this A2 sized card turned out.  I like the colors on it.  I started with the DCWV black card front, which I embossed with my Cuttlebug.  I added the embossed Cuttlebug flower strip (that I added black gems to), and then used a new EKSuccess border punch.  I cut the scalloped circle and circle using the Mini Monograms Cricut cartridge.  I used a punch for the layered sentiment that was printed from my computer.  The flowers are Prima and Petaloo.  The photo corner punch is from Stampin Up.

Happy Fall Y'all!

Is it really getting close to fall?  Yep, it sure is!  So, I decided to make this fun card to go with the season.  And it's the latest reveal over at Cardabilities.  We had another fun sketch that really made me stretch.  That's a good thing! 

The card is an A2 card.  I embossed the background with my Cuttlebug and then added the scalloped rectangle and green label, which are both Nestabilities.  The scalloped circle bird in the tree is from the Cindy Loo Cricut cartridge, cut at 2 1/4".  I added some ribbon, a Sizzlit flourish and a couple of flowers, some pearls, and it was done!

Enjoy the "Sweet" Life of Retirement

My boss and I were invited to a retirement party for a sweet lady, who was our contact for a particular client for the 22 years I've worked there (I work at a law firm).  I volunteered to make a retirement card for her.  I was going to put a clock on the front and use the sentiment, "Time to Relax," but I just happened to see a card magazine that had strawberries on the card on the front, and I think it said something about "the sweet life."  That inspired me to make this card with this sentiment.

The card is 5 1/4" x 5 1/4."  The yellow scalloped square is a DCWV card front.  I used Pink Paislee papers (which I love) for the different layers.  The scalloped circle was cut at 4 1/2" (I think) using the Mini Monograms Cricut cartridge (never use the font, but I love this cartridge for this scalloped circle and the scalloped square as well).  The strawberry was cut using the Celebrate With Flourishes Cricut Lite cartridge at 3".  I added cinnamon Stickles to the chocolate coating on the strawberry.  I used an EK Success border punch, some satin ribbon, and a Recollections mini rose.  The sentiment on the front was punched with a McGill punch.  The gems were in my stash.  As shown in the title to this post, the inside says, "the 'SWEET' life of retirement.  It is well deserved."

May God "Shine" On Your Birthday

This was a really quick card that I made for a sweet friend's birthday.  It was one of those that I knew I needed to get done quickly, so I sought a little help.  I used papers from a DCWV mat stack that had the flowers on it.  Of course it bothered me that they had no dimension, so I added pearls in the center, which helped.  The sun was from the Create A Critter Cricut cartridge.  The sentiment was computer generated and punched.  (What would I do without my punches?)  I made this card in about 30 minutes -- pretty good for me!  The card is an A2 size.  I think the sun was cut at 2 inches.

With Our Sympathy

While at the beach a couple of weeks ago, I got a call from my sister at 11:30 p.m., telling me that a former high school boyfriend had passed away suddenly two days after turning 51.  My heart was broken for his family.  He was a wonderful guy, and surely to be missed by his wife, children, and parents.  I made this card to send to his wife.  Next I'll make a card for his parents.

The card is 4 1/2" x 5 3/4".  The pink scalloped rectangle is a DCWV card front.  I used some My Mind's Eye paper for the background and found the doily in my stash.  I cut a 2 1/4" circle using my George Cricut cartridge and then cut a shadow of it in green.  I added some Prima flowers and a jeweled flourish from my stash.  The sentiment is computer generated and punched.  I also added some blue chalk around the edges.  The pearls are all Queen & Co. (I think).

You Only Get One Shot . . .

My son-in-law had a birthday this week, so I came up with this card for him.  He is an avid duck hunter.  Well, he pretty much loves any kind of hunting.  So, I knew he'd like this little pooch with his gun.  I received a comment from an anonymous person asking that I list sizes in my descriptions.  I hope they are meaning the sizes of the cards because I have a hard time remembering the size of the cuts I use.  I'm always cutting and tossing and cutting again in a different size to get the right look.  Anyway, the card is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" (which is A2).  I cut the dog from the Paper Pups Cricut cartridge.  The orange background shape (not sure what to call it) is from the Accent Essentials Cricut cartridge.  The tag with the sentiment on it is a Shapeabilities die.  I also used a couple of border punches and embossed the green strip of paper.  The star wooden buttons came from Joann's.

The inside says, "at having a great birthday every year.  Hope you make the most of it!  Happy Birthday!"
